Gum Lift

There are few risks associated with the cosmetic gum procedure and it is a relatively quick and painless procedure. As the gums surrounding your front teeth are the most visible part of your smile, this is the only area corrected on most occasions, although other areas can be included in gum lift treatment as required.

Using a soft tissue laser, Focus Dental professionals will reshape the impacted gum area, stopping any bleeding and sealing off blood vessels. The procedure is usually quick and relatively painless, and there is no need for stitches.

Your gums will heal completely within a week after surgery, so you can eat and drink within 24 hours. Over-the-counter medicines can be used to control any pain after surgery, and these should only be needed immediately afterwards.

In some cases, surgery may be required. An orthodontic surgeon works in collaboration with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon when performing orthognathic surgery. In order to reduce the amount of teeth and gum visible, the upper jaw (maxilla) can be moved upwards with surgery.

In the case of patients with jaw alignment issues and excessively horizontal growth in the maxilla (upper jaw), this is usually the preferred gummy smile treatment.

An elective tooth extraction, bone and gum reduction (alveolectomy), and a dental implant reconstruction with a new gum design can also be performed to change the gum display and replace broken or rotten teeth at the same time.

A gum recontouring or cosmetic gum replacement method redesigns the gums. It may be the best choice for patients with extensive dental or gum disease, who would benefit from an overhaul instead of tooth preservation. The treatment is also appropriate for those who do not wish or are not capable of undergoing extensive orthodontics or orthognathic surgery.
